When eating out, most of us would rather have the kind of food that we can’t have at home. If we have to dress up for dinner, then we might as well indulge in moussaka, or osso buco, or a kick-ass foie gras burger with truffle chips on the side. Why pay service charge for some fried fish when the same thing is served at your mom’s dinner table? Well, because some places actually serve pretty good versions of our local favorites. Like Recipes. Famous for its gising gising, Recipes has quite a number of Filipino staples on its menu, along with a mishmash of random Pinoy-loved dishes from around the world. Unfortunately though, lost in a sea of Cibos, Cymas, CPK’s and other no-brainier dining choices when at the mall, Recipes is easily forgotten as one of those places where you can be more or less certain that your meal will be the same as (if not better) than the last time you were there, and that it will worth the three hundred bucks you’re spending.
